Project Description

The main objective of the Marzenego project was to program monitoring activities in order to measure the effectiveness of the "Natural Base Solutions (es. Wetland and floodplain) within the Marzenego River Basin.

A monitoring strategy was defined together with the citizens during various meetings, both face-to-face and online, in which they identified the parameters to be measured (nitrate, phosphate, turbidity, E. Coli, Riparian Vegetation), and the experimental design. In the meetings, there was also the active participation of some local institutions. Moreover many schools from primary to secondary with the participation of about 600 students aged 10 to 18, were involved in the measurements of nitrates, phosphates, and turbidity (FWW methodology). Secondary schools, in addition, participated in the implementation of a simplified method for the bacteriological measurements of Escherichia coli, comparing them with the official standardized methods. The strong involvement of schools has not only brought significant benefits to the project, which in this way has been able to reach a large number of families, but has also given the school an active social role.
